Tori Amos
Pianist and songwriter whose 'Little Earthquakes' set confessional, often raw lyrics to classically trained playing, performed straddling piano bench and keyboard at once.

About Tori Amos
Tori Amos was born in North Carolina in 1963 and won a place at the Peabody Conservatory's preparatory division as a small child, leaving as a pre-teen. Her first album, as the synth-rock band Y Kant Tori Read in 1988, flopped, and she turned back to the piano for 'Little Earthquakes' in 1992, which included 'Silent All These Years', 'Winter' and the unaccompanied 'Me and a Gun'.
'Under the Pink' brought the hit 'Cornflake Girl', and 'Boys for Pele' added harpsichord and stranger song structures, while 'From the Choirgirl Hotel' moved toward electronic textures and a full band. She has released records steadily since, usually touring them with her Bösendorfer piano at the centre of the stage.
