About Whiskeytown

Whiskeytown formed in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1994, with Ryan Adams as singer and main songwriter, Caitlin Cary on fiddle and vocals and Phil Wandscher on guitar. Their lineup changed often around that core. The debut, Faithless Street, mixed punk energy with honky-tonk and country ballads.

Strangers Almanac, released in 1997 on Outpost Records, included '16 Days' and 'Excuse Me While I Break My Own Heart Tonight'. The band recorded a third album, Pneumonia, before splitting. Label mergers held it up, and Lost Highway finally released it in 2001, by which time Adams had begun his solo career.
