The Avett Brothers

The Avett Brothers come from Concord, North Carolina, where Seth and Scott Avett played in a rock band before turning to acoustic instruments around 2000. Bassist Bob Crawford joined early on, and cellist Joe Kwon later became a fixture. On stage Scott often plays banjo while working a kick drum, and their shows are loud, physical and fast.

Producer Rick Rubin began working with the band on 'I and Love and You' in 2009, a record that moved them toward piano ballads and fuller arrangements and brought them to a much larger audience. Rubin stayed on for several albums that followed, including 'True Sadness'. The 2017 documentary 'May It Last', co-directed by Judd Apatow, follows the brothers through the making of a record.
