Leeds band working the melodic end of metalcore, big clean choruses set against screamed verses — polished, radio-sized heaviness with a post-hardcore heart.

Caskets formed in Leeds in 2018 under the name Captives, built around vocalist Matthew Flood, guitarist Benjamin Wilson, bassist Christopher McIntosh and drummer James Lazenby, with Lee Horner also part of the original lineup. They released a self-titled debut EP in 2019 after a run of early singles, then toured Europe supporting Hands Like Houses and played dates alongside Bad Omens and Crystal Lake.

Horner left the band after that period and McIntosh moved from rhythm guitar to bass, with former Glamour of the Kill guitarist Craig Robinson brought in to fill the gap. The band signed to SharpTone Records around this time and put out the single Glass Heart, building on the melodic, chorus-driven sound that had already set them apart.

A trademark dispute with an unrelated Australian act forced a rename to Caskets in 2021, temporarily taking their music offline across streaming platforms. Days after the switch they returned with the single Lost in Echoes, followed by their debut album under the new name, Lost Souls, released that August alongside further singles including The Only Ones.

Following the album, Caskets toured Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK supporting Swedish alternative rockers Normandie, a run that also featured Thousand Below and had been delayed from its original spring date because of the pandemic.
