ERRA
Alabama metalcore long-haulers who set Jesse Cash's clean melodies against JT Cavey's roar — precision riffing with an ambient, weightless sheen.
ERRA was formed in Birmingham, Alabama in 2009 by a group of high school friends: Alex Ballew, Jesse Cash, Adam Hicks, Garrison Lee and Alan Rigdon. After two self-released EPs, the band signed to Tragic Hero Records in 2011 and put out their debut album, Impulse, touring behind it with Born of Osiris and Upon a Burning Body.
The lineup shifted repeatedly through the early 2010s. Hicks left in 2012, leaving Cash to track both guitar and bass on the follow-up album, Augment, before guitarist Sean Price joined. Garrison Lee and Alan Rigdon departed in 2014, and the band moved to Sumerian Records with vocalist Ian Eubanks fronting the Moments of Clarity EP, which topped Billboard's Heatseekers chart.
JT Cavey, formerly of Texas in July, joined in 2016 after Eubanks's exit, settling into the harsh-vocal role against Jesse Cash's clean melodies, a pairing that has defined the band since. Their album Drift also reached number one on the Heatseekers chart, and the band toured Sumerian's 10-year anniversary run alongside Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, After the Burial and Bad Omens, with Conor Hesse settling in on bass.
Neon followed in 2018, again topping the Heatseekers chart, with tours alongside After the Burial and The Acacia Strain. The band's low-tuned, tightly programmed rhythm playing set against bright, reverb-heavy lead guitar became a recognisable signature, reinforced by a 2019 tour with Northlane, Crystal Lake and Currents and a cover of Queens of the Stone Age's 'You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire'.
ERRA has since released seven studio albums and three EPs in total, most recently Silence Outlives the Earth, and has toured with acts including Ice Nine Kills, Glass Cloud, Within the Ruins and I See Stars, building a reputation among guitarists for tone and layering along the way.
