Brain Emoji

Brain Emoji began in 2018 when guitarist Joe Marcinek and Mike Bryant started playing together. The lineup rotated for a while before settling with Vinny Svoboda and Jamie Newitt as the other two members.

The band works without setlists or prepared material, improvising each show from scratch. A single set can move from slow post-rock build-ups to ambient electronic passages to jazz freakouts, with onstage antics that pull the audience in. Members have shared bills with players from The Heavy Pets and Particle and with percussionist Mike Dillon. The band also keeps a running in-joke mythology about a one-eyed peach it calls HIM.
