About Cope
Cope was started by brothers Dennis and Kenny Stadelman, who came to Florida from Akron, Ohio. Dennis plays guitar and Kenny plays bass. Dave Gerulat joined on drums and vocals, and a multi-instrumentalist who goes by Juanjamon covers saxophone, keys and vocals.
The arrangements are built to set up Dennis Stadelman's guitar solos, which trade off against Juanjamon's saxophone and keyboard lines over Kenny Stadelman's bass. The material moves between psychedelic funk, jazz-inflected reggae and an electronic take on bluegrass, with long improvised stretches. The band has a loyal following that calls itself the Cope family.
