Aviana
Gothenburg group working in modern, machine-tight heaviness rather than their city's melodeath tradition — riffs built on precision and sudden dynamic drops.
Aviana formed in Gothenburg in 2016 with vocalist Marcus Vik, guitarists Marcus Heffler and Oscar Forsman, bassist Sebastian Colque and drummer Niclas Bergström, releasing their debut album Polarize in 2017. Vik left later that year and was replaced by Joel Holmqvist, formerly of Walking with Strangers.
Signed to the German label Arising Empire, the band released second album Epicenter in 2019 to a positive review in Metal Hammer. The following year every other founding member departed, leaving Holmqvist as the sole official member operating under the Aviana name.
Holmqvist continued alone, releasing the EP Overcome in 2021 before introducing three masked live musicians known only as Death, Fear and Dark in 2022. Their contributions were compiled into the album Corporation, released that September, and the group has kept working in this configuration since.
The band has toured with Earth Caller in Australia, joined Imminence and Allt on a European run billed as the Black Tour, and served as main support on Make Them Suffer's first North American headlining tour, alongside a steady run of standalone singles.
