Dead Poet Society formed in Boston, where its members met while studying at Berklee College of Music, and later relocated to Los Angeles. The band works in a lean rock format, combining heavy, blues-inflected guitar figures with syncopated rhythms and the high, often falsetto register of singer and guitarist Jack Underkofler. The arrangements tend to leave space, with riffs carrying melodic weight rather than sitting behind a vocal line.
The group released its debut album, titled "-!-", in 2021, and followed it with "FISSION". Songs such as "Sailors" and ".CoDA." have been among the more widely heard tracks, and the band has built much of its reputation on live performance, where the four-piece plays with a fuller sound than the line-up suggests.
