About Johnny Hooker
Johnny Hooker is a singer, songwriter and actor from Recife in Pernambuco. His songs draw on brega, the sentimental popular music of Brazil's Northeast, and on classic MPB, played with rock-band force and a theatrical sense of drama.
His debut album, Eu Vou Fazer Uma Macumba Pra Te Amarrar, Maldito!, came out in 2015 and was built around jealousy, revenge and unrequited love, sung at full volume. Before the music career took off he acted in the 2013 film Tatuagem, set in a Recife cabaret troupe during the military dictatorship, and his concerts carry that same stage background.
