Gaby Amarantos

Gaby Amarantos comes from Belém, the capital of Pará, where tecnobrega grew out of the city's sound-system parties: brega melodies sped up and rebuilt on cheap electronic beats. She first made her name fronting Banda Tecno Show before going solo, and picked up the nickname "Beyoncé do Pará" after her tecnobrega version of "Single Ladies" spread around Brazil.

Her solo debut album, Treme, came out in 2012, the same year her song "Ex Mai Love" was used as the theme of the TV Globo telenovela Cheias de Charme and carried her to a national audience. She followed it years later with Purakê, which leans further into Amazonian sounds and themes. Alongside music she has worked as a television presenter and actress.
