Lucy Alves grew up in João Pessoa, Paraíba, and came to wider notice through television, first as a singing competition finalist and later as an actress in Brazilian novelas. She plays sanfona as well as singing, and her repertoire draws on the forró and northeastern song traditions of her home state alongside broader MPB material. Her live work tends to put the accordion at the front, with arrangements that keep the regional rhythms intact rather than smoothing them into pop.
