About Nação Zumbi
Nação Zumbi formed in Recife in the early 1990s around Chico Science and became the core of the mangue beat movement, mixing rock, punk, funk and hip hop with Pernambuco rhythms and heavy percussion. Da Lama ao Caos (1994) and Afrociberdelia (1996) were both certified gold.
Chico Science died in a car accident in February 1997, and the band carried on with Rádio S.AMB.A (2000), Futura (2005), Fome de Tudo (2007) and a self-titled album in 2014. Jorge du Peixe, Dengue and Toca Ogam lead the current lineup, back after a 2022 hiatus.
