Eddie Vedder is the singer of Pearl Jam, the Seattle band he joined in 1990 after moving north from San Diego. Away from the group he has released solo work including the soundtrack to the film Into the Wild and Ukulele Songs, a record built almost entirely around the instrument, as well as the later album Earthling. His solo performances tend towards spare arrangements, extended covers and material drawn from across his career, often with guest musicians joining him.
His baritone and his phrasing are among the most recognisable in American rock, and his solo billing generally signals a looser, more conversational format than the full-band setting.
