Wanda Sá
A bossa nova voice and guitar from the music's first generation, still working the repertoire she helped define.
Wanda Sá recorded her first album, "Vagamente", in 1964, singing and playing guitar in the light, close-miked style of the Rio bossa nova circle she came from. It remains the record she is best known for.
She moved to the United States soon after and worked as Wanda de Sah with Sergio Mendes, singing in his Brasil '65 group. In later decades she returned to performing the bossa repertoire in Brazil, often in small-group settings with Roberto Menescal, whose songs she has sung since the beginning.
