Capital Inicial
Brasília institution active since 1982, born out of the city's post-punk underground and long since a fixture of Brazilian arena rock.
Capital Inicial were formed in Brasília in 1982 by musicians who had played in Aborto Elétrico, the short-lived punk band that also produced members of Legião Urbana. Brothers Fê and Flávio Lemos were part of the founding line-up, with Dinho Ouro Preto taking over as vocalist early on and remaining the band's frontman since.
Their music moved from the terse post-punk of the Brasília scene towards a broader, more melodic rock aimed at large venues, and songs such as "Independência", "Fátima" and "Primeiros Erros" became standards of Brazilian radio. An acoustic album recorded for MTV Brasil around the turn of the century brought a substantial commercial revival, and the group has toured consistently since.
