The Chicks

Texas trio of Natalie Maines and sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer, whose fiddle-and-banjo country pop carries Maines's forthright, combative vocals.

About The Chicks

The Chicks began in Dallas in 1989 as the Dixie Chicks, a bluegrass group that busked and played small venues with a different lead singer. Natalie Maines joined in 1995, and the albums 'Wide Open Spaces' and 'Fly' made them one of the best-selling acts in country music, with Martie Maguire on fiddle and Emily Strayer on banjo and dobro.

In 2003 Maines criticised President George W. Bush from a London stage, and country radio largely dropped the band. They answered with 'Taking the Long Way' and its single 'Not Ready to Make Nice', and the album won the Grammy for Album of the Year. They shortened their name in 2020 and released 'Gaslighter' the same year.
