Washington-state football player turned country hitmaker — 'Wine Into Whiskey' and a run of streaming smashes behind it.

Tucker Payson Wetmore was born in November 1999 and grew up in Kalama, a small town north of Vancouver, Washington, graduating from Kalama High School in 2018. He taught himself piano at eleven, drawn in by Jerry Lee Lewis, and later played football at Montana Technological University in Butte, majoring in business and information technology, before an injury ended that path.

After the injury, Wetmore moved to Nashville in 2020 and began writing. He put out a run of promotional singles in 2021, including "Kiss My A$$," "Another Shot" and "She's Trouble," building an audience before signing with Back Blocks Music in 2023 and later adding a partnership with UMG Nashville.

"Wind Up Missin' You" reached listeners through streaming after its digital release in early 2024 before becoming his country radio debut single that June. "Wine Into Whiskey" gave him his first entries on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts the same year.

His music sits in the contemporary mainstream of the genre, pairing conversational, heartbreak-centred lyrics with production that draws as much on pop and hip-hop rhythm as on traditional country instrumentation. He sings in a low, unhurried register, and much of his material returns to small-town settings, past relationships and the passage of time.

He has toured widely as a support act while building out his own headline shows, and released his debut album, What Not To, in April 2025.
