Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats

Nathaniel Rateliff grew up in rural Missouri and moved to Denver as a young man, where he spent years making hushed, folk-leaning solo records before forming The Night Sweats. The band's self-titled debut came out in 2015 on a revived Stax Records, a fitting home for a group built around a full horn section and a rhythm section that plays like a sixties soul house band.

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats have since made further albums, including Tearing at the Seams and The Future, which push into heartland rock and slower, more reflective material. Live, Rateliff works as a bandleader in the old revue style, shouting cues to the horns and stretching songs out for the room.
