He began in hip-hop, appearing as a guest vocalist and releasing rap-leaning singles, before shifting toward guitar-driven alternative and pop-punk writing on later releases. The rap phrasing remains audible in his vocal delivery, layered over distorted power chords and programmed drums, and his lyrics tend toward confessional accounts of relationships, substance use and self-doubt.
