About Jim Ford
Jim Ford was born in Kentucky and later moved west to California, where he worked as a songwriter on the edges of the Los Angeles music business in the 1960s. His records mix country storytelling with Southern soul grooves and a loose, rough-edged vocal delivery. 'Niki Hoeky' was recorded by Bobbie Gentry and Aretha Franklin among others.
In Britain, Brinsley Schwarz recorded several of his songs, and Nick Lowe later cut Ford's '36 Inches High' on his own debut album. Interest in Ford's work grew in the 2000s, when the Bear Family label issued The Sounds of Our Time, a compilation of his recordings. He died in 2007.
