Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton grew up one of twelve children in Sevier County, Tennessee, and moved to Nashville after high school. She became a star as Porter Wagoner's duet partner on his television show in the late 1960s before going solo with songs drawn from her childhood, such as 'Coat of Many Colors'.

She crossed into pop with 'Here You Come Again', starred in the film 9 to 5 and wrote its title song, and sang 'Islands in the Stream' with Kenny Rogers. She also made the Trio albums with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt and returned to acoustic roots on The Grass Is Blue. Away from music she founded Dollywood and the Imagination Library, which mails free books to young children.
