About Johnny Cash
Johnny Cash was born in Kingsland, Arkansas, in 1932, grew up on a cotton farm and served in the US Air Force before signing to Sun Records in Memphis. Backed by the Tennessee Two, guitarist Luther Perkins and bassist Marshall Grant, he cut 'Folsom Prison Blues' and 'I Walk the Line', and later 'Ring of Fire' after moving to Columbia.
His live prison albums led to At San Quentin and 'A Boy Named Sue', and he hosted his own network television show. He married June Carter, recorded as one of the Highwaymen with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson, and spent his last decade making sparse records with Rick Rubin, including a cover of Nine Inch Nails' 'Hurt'. He died in 2003.
