Infected Rain
Moldovan band fronted by Lena Scissorhands, whose switching between clean singing, rapped cadences and full-throat screams anchors their groove-heavy metal.
Infected Rain formed in Chișinău, Moldova, in 2008, put together by guitarist Vadim "Vidick" Ojog, drummer and DJ Ivan Kristioglo, known as DJ Kapa, and singer Elena Cataraga, who performs as Lena Scissorhands. The band played its first show at a concert dedicated to Slayer that August, then recorded an early demo and took part in metal festivals in Crimea and Ukraine over the following two years.
Her vocal range across the band's material takes in melodic singing, rhythmic spoken and rapped passages and harsh screaming, often within a single song.
The music behind her sits between nu metal and metalcore, built on syncopated, downtuned riffing and electronic accents. Lena writes the English-language lyrics, while Vidick composes most of the music with input from the rest of the group. The band records for Napalm Records.
Full-length albums followed steadily: Asylum in 2011, Embrace Eternity in 2014, 86 in 2017 and TIME in 2024, alongside releases including Endorphin and Ecdysis, which broadened the band's following well beyond Eastern Europe. They have toured extensively across the United States and Europe, sharing stages with acts such as Mötley Crüe, Dimmu Borgir and Behemoth. In 2023 the Babich brothers left the lineup and bassist Alice Lane joined.
Lena Scissorhands is coached by New York vocal coach Melissa Cross and has become known locally for her tattoos and stage presence, described by Moldovan media as the country's most eccentric vocalist.
