One of the bands that defined electronicore, welding trance synths and dance drops to post-hardcore — maximalist and unapologetically melodic.

I See Stars formed in Warren, Michigan, in 2006 out of a group of childhood friends: brothers Devin and Andrew Oliver, guitarist Brent Allen and bassist Jeff Valentine had lived on the same block since elementary school. The band became one of the acts most associated with electronicore, folding trance synthesisers and dance-oriented drops into post-hardcore song structures.

After the early EP Green Light Go!, the band signed to Sumerian Records in 2008 and released its debut, 3-D, the following year, which reached No. 176 on the Billboard 200. Keyboardist and screamer Zach Johnson left soon after the album's release and returned the following year, the first of several lineup changes around Devin Oliver's vocals.

Digital Renegade (2012) pushed toward a heavier, more aggressive sound, and New Demons (2013) folded in EDM textures while staying just as forceful. A remix album, Phases, followed in 2015, the same year Johnson and guitarist Jimmy Gregerson left the band. Treehouse, released in 2016, was the first album made with the resulting lineup, followed by an acoustic version of the record in 2018.

The band's approach pairs screamed and clean vocals over heavily programmed arrangements, with New Demons and Treehouse pushing further toward electronic and pop textures. Devin Oliver has remained the band's vocalist across its entire history.

I See Stars went on hiatus for close to seven years before teasing a return with a lyric posted online, followed by the single "Split" in 2024. Their sixth studio album, The Wheel, came out in September 2025.
