About Hot Tuna Acoustic
Hot Tuna began in 1969 as a side project for Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Casady, who had played together since their teenage years in Washington, D.C. The band's first album was an acoustic set recorded live at the New Orleans House in Berkeley, built largely on songs from the Reverend Gary Davis repertoire such as 'Hesitation Blues' and 'Death Don't Have No Mercy'.
Hot Tuna Acoustic is the stripped-back form of the band, with Kaukonen fingerpicking an acoustic guitar in the Piedmont style and Casady playing melodic, roaming lines on acoustic bass. The electric version of Hot Tuna leaned toward long, loud jams; the acoustic shows keep the focus on the songs and the interplay between the two players.
