Dead To Me
SF punk with gravel and melody — Fat Wreck-lineage songwriting that pairs busted-romantic lyrics with East Bay drive.
Dead To Me formed in San Francisco in 2003 around vocalist and guitarist Jack Dalrymple, drummer Brandon Pollack, and bassist Chicken, formerly of One Man Army, who has remained the band's constant presence. Pollack soon gave way to Chicken's cousin Isa Anderson on drums, and Nathan Grice joined as a second guitarist, rounding out the early lineup.
Dalrymple stepped back after the band's second release, Little Brother, to raise a newborn child and commit fully to the Swingin' Utters, leaving Grice to take over lead vocals. The band toured and recorded as a three-piece for about two years before Grice departed too, replaced by guitarists Sam Johnson and Ken Yamazaki. Dalrymple rejoined in late 2014, expanding the group to five members.
Their records, released through Fat Wreck Chords, place them within the Bay Area punk lineage the label has long documented. The material combines fast, melodic punk with hoarse vocals and a rhythm section that owes something to ska and reggae-inflected East Bay punk, with songs tending toward first-person accounts of drinking, dislocation and failed relationships rather than broader political statements.
The returning five-piece lineup wrote and recorded I Wanna Die in Los Angeles, released in 2016, the band's first new music in five years since Moscow Penny Ante. In September 2024, the unreleased track Don't Be Mad appeared on the Red Scare Industries compilation 20 Years of Dreaming and Scheming.
