Gillian Welch & David Rawlings

Gillian Welch and David Rawlings met at Berklee College of Music and have worked together ever since, recording for years under Welch's name and later under Rawlings's as the Dave Rawlings Machine, with both writing and playing on everything. Their debut, 'Revival', was produced by T Bone Burnett, and 'Time (The Revelator)' remains their most cited record. Welch also contributed to the 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' soundtrack.

Rawlings plays a small 1930s Epiphone archtop, and his darting, off-kilter lead lines answer Welch's steady rhythm guitar and close harmonies. The pair run their own Acme label and Woodland studio in Nashville, and 'All the Good Times', a set of covers recorded at home in 2020, won a Grammy for Best Folk Album.
