Faith No More

Faith No More formed in San Francisco in the early 1980s around bassist Billy Gould, drummer Mike Bordin and keyboardist Roddy Bottum. Chuck Mosley sang on their first two albums, and Mike Patton, also of Mr. Bungle, replaced him for The Real Thing in 1989. Guitarist Jim Martin's heavy riffing sat against Bottum's keyboards, giving the band a sound that could tip from thrash into something close to a show tune.

Angel Dust (1992) pushed further into abrasive, unpredictable territory, and their straight-faced cover of the Commodores' "Easy" became a hit the same era. After King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime and Album of the Year, the band split in 1998. They reunited in 2009 and released Sol Invictus in 2015.
