About Emmylou Harris
Emmylou Harris was born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1947 and started out singing folk in coffeehouses before Gram Parsons recruited her as his duet partner on GP and Grievous Angel. After his death in 1973 she carried that sound into her own records, starting with Pieces of the Sky (1975) and Elite Hotel, backed by the Hot Band, whose members over the years included James Burton, Albert Lee and Rodney Crowell.
She has moved through bluegrass on Roses in the Snow (1980) and close three-part harmony with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt on Trio (1987). Wrecking Ball (1995), produced by Daniel Lanois, wrapped her voice in atmospheric, echoing guitars. Red Dirt Girl (2000) was built mostly on her own songs, a change for a singer best known as an interpreter.
