Symphonic-leaning blackened deathcore assembled with orchestral bombast and technical density — extremity arranged like a film score.

Disembodied Tyrant was formed in St. Louis in 2020 by vocalist Donovan Parchment and producer Wilhelm Vickers, previously of HVLFERN. Both left in 2022, and vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Blake Mullens, who had joined the band in November 2021, became its principal songwriter and frontman going forward.

The music combines blackened deathcore, blast beats, tremolo-picked riffing and harsh layered vocals, with heavy orchestration, so that strings, choirs and brass carry as much of the arrangement as the guitars do. Tempos shift frequently, and passages of technical, progressive writing sit next to slower breakdown sections.

The band's debut single, "Limbo," appeared in January 2021, followed later that year by the EP Eclipse, Pt. 1. In 2024 they released The Poetic Edda, a collaboration with fellow symphonic deathcore act Synestia whose closing track reimagines the fourth concerto of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, and later that year put out a further EP, The Tower: Part One.

Like much of the current symphonic deathcore scene, the band built its audience largely through online releases and streaming rather than conventional touring first, and its recordings are notable for how densely produced they are. In March 2025 they signed to Nuclear Blast and released the single "8.6 Blackout."
