Windwaker
Melbourne metalcore with a heavy pop instinct, pairing electronic sheen and clean hooks against breakdowns.
Windwaker formed in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, in late 2014, taking their name from the Legend of Zelda video game. The original lineup relocated to Melbourne the following year, where the band settled and built the sound that would define its records.
The band pairs screamed verses, down-tuned riffing and breakdowns with pop songwriting, electronic production and clean, radio-ready choruses. Vocalist Liam Guinane, guitarist Justin Keurntjes, bassist Indey Salvestro, keyboardist Connor Robins and drummer Chris Lalic make up the current lineup.
Windwaker built momentum through two EPs before their debut album, releasing Fade in 2017 and Empire in 2019, both largely self-produced. Early singles such as "The Charade" and "Castaway" helped establish the band within Australia's heavier rock scene.
Their debut album Love Language followed in 2022, with a second album, HYPERVIOLENCE, released in 2024. Both records extended the group's electronic and melodic leanings, moving further from straightforward hardcore toward a heavier pop-rock hybrid.
