The Internet
Los Angeles collective that grew out of Odd Future, built around Syd's hushed vocals over loose, jazz-inflected neo-soul grooves. Steve Lacy came up in its ranks.

About The Internet
The Internet started in 2011 as a duo of Syd (Sydney Bennett) and Matt Martians before growing into a full band with bassist Patrick Paige II, drummer Christopher Smith and guitarist Steve Lacy. The early records, 'Purple Naked Ladies' and 'Feel Good', were hazy and home-made. By 'Ego Death' in 2015 the group had become a tight live unit, and that album earned a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
The songs move at an easy, conversational pace, with round bass lines, brushed drums and chords borrowed from jazz and 1970s soul. Between albums the members split off into solo work, and 'Hive Mind' in 2018 brought those separate projects back into the band's shared sound.
