Terrorvision
Bradford quartet who turned scruffy Yorkshire riffs into genuine chart pop with 'Tequila' and 'Perseverance' — decades of daft, durable rock with the choruses intact.
The band began in 1987 in Keighley, West Yorkshire, under the name The Spoilt Bratz. They became Terrorvision in 1991, by which point all the members had settled in Bradford, the city that gave the band its lasting identity.
Their sound leans on chunky, unfussy guitar riffs built around choruses meant to be shouted back, with Tony Wright's broad Yorkshire accent left untouched throughout.
The re-released single 'My House' broke the band into the charts in January 1994, followed months later by the album How to Make Friends and Influence People and the hit single 'Oblivion.' They won the Kerrang! Award for Best Newcomer that year.
1996's Regular Urban Survivors produced 'Perseverance,' their first Top 5 single, and Wright went on to host Top of the Pops and appear on Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Shaving Peaches followed in 1998, and a Mint Royale remix of 'Tequila' became their biggest hit, reaching number 2 in January 1999 and winning Best Single at the Kerrang! Awards.
EMI dropped the band after a run of falling chart placings, and a fifth member, keyboardist and backing vocalist Josephine Ellul, joined before 2001's Good to Go on a smaller label. The band split that year after a farewell tour ending in Bradford, before reforming in 2005 and continuing to play live since.
