Feine Sahne Fischfilet

Feine Sahne Fischfilet formed in 2007 in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a rural state where far-right groups have long had a visible presence. The band is fronted by singer Jan "Monchi" Gorkow, whose rough, bellowed vocals sit on top of fast punk guitars and a trumpet line. Early records leaned on ska rhythms. Later albums such as Sturm & Dreck move toward anthemic German-language punk rock, with songs about home, friendship, drinking and staying put in a region many young people leave.

The band's politics have drawn official attention: for several years it was named in the state's domestic intelligence report. It has also made a point of playing small towns in the northeast that rarely see touring bands. Charly Hübner's 2018 documentary Wildes Herz follows Monchi and the band.
