Babe Haven
Durham punk band with riot grrrl bite and pop hooks, built on the local DIY circuit and loud enough to have outgrown it.
About Babe Haven
Babe Haven formed in 2021 in Boone, North Carolina, came up through the town's DIY scene and moved to Durham in 2023. Lillie Della Penna sings lead, Naomi Poesel plays guitar and Julia Lynn plays bass. The early songs leaned toward grunge and indie pop, and the band has since gone much heavier, citing Bikini Kill and System of a Down among its touchstones.
The lo-fi debut Uppercut came out in 2023, and Nuisance followed in June 2024, folding nu metal and thrash into the punk. The songs take on how queer people and communities of color get pushed to the margins, often through satire, and the live show leans theatrical. The band releases its records independently, and opened for the English punk duo Soft Play in Chicago in 2025.
