Arca

Arca is the project of Alejandra Ghersi, born in Caracas in 1989. She later lived in New York and then settled in Barcelona. Her early mixtapes and the albums Xen (2014) and Mutant (2015) were largely instrumental, built from twisted, glitching synths and splintered beats. Her 2017 album Arca put her own voice in the centre, much of it sung in Spanish.

Between 2020 and 2021 she released the KiCk series, five albums ranging from distorted club tracks and reggaeton to ambient piano pieces, with guests including Rosalía, SOPHIE and Shygirl. She has also produced for FKA twigs, and her live shows pair the music with heavily stylised visuals.
