Yaeji
Queens-born, Korean-American producer and DJ who murmurs in Korean and English over deadpan house, the approach behind 'Raingurl' and 'With a Hammer'.
Yaeji is the stage name of Kathy Yaeji Lee, who was born in Flushing, Queens, and spent parts of her childhood in the United States and South Korea. She studied at Carnegie Mellon, then moved to New York and began DJing in Brooklyn clubs. Her 2017 releases EP1 and EP2 established her voice, and her remix of Drake's 'Passionfruit' drew early attention.
She later signed to XL Recordings, which released the mixtape What We Drew in 2020 and her debut album With a Hammer in 2023. The album moved past her club-focused work toward songs about anger and self-expression, using live instruments and rock textures alongside her quiet vocal delivery. A visual artist by training, she has a strong hand in her own artwork and videos.
