Twin Peaks formed in Chicago while its members were still in their teens, and the band has stayed identified with the city ever since. The core lineup — Cadien Lake James, Clay Frankel, Jack Dolan and Connor Brodner — splits songwriting and lead vocals between several members, which gives the records a shifting, communal feel.
The sound starts in scrappy garage rock and has widened over time to take in barroom piano, horns and country-leaning ballads, with albums including Sunken, Wild Onion, Down in Heaven and Lookout Low. Live, the group leans on ragged harmonies and a loose, unpolished delivery rather than precision.
