Tourist is the solo project of William Phillips, a London producer and songwriter whose songwriting credits sit alongside a steady run of his own electronic records. His debut album, U, came out in 2016, followed by Wild in 2019.
The Tourist records stay mostly instrumental, built from warm synth pads, shuffling garage-influenced drums and cut-up vocal snippets used as texture rather than lead lines. Live, Phillips plays the material from hardware and keys, stretching tracks out and reworking arrangements rather than playing the album versions straight.
