About Rose City Band
Rose City Band is the Portland project of Ripley Johnson, guitarist and singer in the drone-rock bands Wooden Shjips and Moon Duo. The first self-titled album came out in 2019 with no names attached, and Johnson only later stepped forward as the person behind it.
Signed to Thrill Jockey, the project has since released Summerlong, Earth Trip and Garden Party. The records keep the repetition of his earlier bands and trade the volume for pedal steel, brushed drums and twangy, Grateful Dead-leaning guitar leads. Live, the songs open out into long instrumental passages.
