Brazilian thrash unit formed in 2010, all-female and relentlessly old-school — riffs and shrieks built on the Bay Area and Teutonic canon.

Nervosa formed in São Paulo in 2010, founded by guitarist Prika Amaral and drummer Fernanda Terra, with Karen Ramos joining briefly as a second guitarist before bassist Fernanda Lira came aboard and the group settled as a trio.

The band plays fast, traditionalist thrash, drawing on the Bay Area school and 1980s German thrash, with shouted and rasped vocals over tremolo riffing and double-kick drumming. Napalm Records signed the group in 2012, and its debut, Victim of Yourself, was produced in 2013 by Heros Trench and Marcello Pompeu of Korzus. Agony followed in 2016, recorded in the United States with producer Brendan Duffey.

Downfall of Mankind, made with drummer Luana Dametto, brought guest spots from João Gordo of Ratos de Porão, Rodrigo Oliveira of Korzus and Michael Gilbert of Flotsam and Jetsam, and the band toured extensively behind it.

In 2020 Lira and Dametto left to form their own band, Crypta, and Amaral rebuilt Nervosa around vocalist Diva Satanica, bassist Mia Wallace and drummer Eleni Nota, members drawn from Italy, Spain and Greece. That lineup recorded Perpetual Chaos, released in 2021 with guest appearances from Schmier of Destruction and Eric A.K. of Flotsam and Jetsam.

Further lineup turnover followed, and Amaral eventually took over lead vocals herself for the Jailbreak era, keeping the band's identity tied to Brazil's long-running extreme metal tradition even as its membership turned increasingly international.
