About Khruangbin
Khruangbin is completed by drummer Donald "DJ" Johnson, who met Mark Speer playing in a Houston church band. The name is Thai for "airplane." Their debut, The Universe Smiles Upon You, leaned on Thai cassette funk, and Con Todo El Mundo widened the reference points toward Middle Eastern and Iranian pop. Mordechai brought far more singing into the mix.
With Leon Bridges they recorded the Texas Sun EP and its follow-up Texas Moon, putting a soul vocalist over their slow, spacious grooves. On stage Lee and Speer are recognisable by their matching black wigs with heavy fringes.
