About Horse Lords
Horse Lords formed in Baltimore around saxophonist Andrew Bernstein, guitarist Owen Gardner, bassist and electronics player Max Eilbacher and drummer Sam Haberman. Gardner refretted the band's guitars himself so they could play in just intonation, and the slightly bent, ringing chords that result sit at the centre of the sound.
The band draw openly on West African guitar music and American minimalism, stacking short repeating figures in different meters until they lock into long, slowly shifting grooves. Alongside studio albums such as The Common Task and Comradely Objects, they have put out a run of self-released mixtapes that mix field recordings, live material and sketches.
