Chicago's most unguarded street writer — rapid, breathless verses that treat trauma as documentary rather than décor.

G Herbo, born Herbert Wright III, grew up on the East Side of Chicago and left Hyde Park Academy High School at sixteen. That same year, 2011, he signed to the Chicago label Machine Entertainment Group. He has cited Meek Mill, Jeezy, Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti and Lil Wayne as influences, and formed an early creative partnership with fellow rapper Lil Bibby.

He first drew attention as Lil Herb in the early 2010s, when "Kill Shit," made with Lil Bibby, circulated alongside the wider Chicago drill wave and drew praise from Drake, who called the pair "the future." The 2014 mixtape Welcome to Fazoland, named for his friend Fazon Robinson, who had been killed by gun violence, established him as one of the scene's more detailed narrators.

His delivery is dense and fast, with long unbroken runs of syllables and little concern for conventional hook writing. Passed over for XXL's Freshman Class cover in 2015, he answered with a single called "XXL," prompting the magazine to note how he switches between different flows effortlessly.

His 2017 debut album Humble Beast, released through Cinematic Music Group, met with critical acclaim. He then entered a joint venture with Epic Records for Swervo (2018), made with producer Southside, followed by its sequel Still Swervin in 2019.

The 2020 album PTSD dealt directly with the psychological aftermath of growing up around violence, a subject he has continued to discuss openly outside his music, and it reached the top ten of the Billboard 200. Since signing with Republic Records he has released 25 (2021), Survivor's Remorse (2022), Big Swerv (2024) and Lil Herb (2025).
