Frankie and the Witch Fingers
LA psych-punk perpetual motion machine — relentless krautrock grooves and fuzz freakouts that never let the tempo sag.
Frankie and the Witch Fingers began in Bloomington, Indiana, in 2013 as a solo basement project for Dylan Sizemore, who sang and played electric guitar over a kick drum. The band's name comes from his cat, Frankie. Through Bloomington's basement show scene he met Glenn Brigman and Josh Menashe, and their first session became the cassette Sidewalk, released that year on Nice Legs Records and blending garage rock with surf.
After early lineup shuffles, including drummer Josh Morrow's exit and bassist Alex Bulli's arrival, the band settled as a four-piece from 2013 to 2018 and put out four full-length albums plus two 7-inch singles. Brigman, Menashe and Bulli moved to Los Angeles in 2014; Sizemore joined them the following year for the band's first tour.
A track called "Revival," included on a four-way split single, caught the ear of Permanent Records, which released the band's self-titled 2015 album and 2016's Heavy Roller, the latter stretching into psych-pop and acid-rock territory. Brain Telephone followed in 2017, folding rhythm-and-blues-style rock and roll and southern rock influences into the mix.
By this point Frankie and the Witch Fingers had settled into the sound they're known for: garage punk urgency layered over repetitive, motorik grooves borrowed from krautrock, thick with fuzz guitar, organ and heavily effected vocals. Songs are often built on a single insistent rhythm that gradually accumulates distortion.
The band is now built around founders Sizemore and Menashe alongside bassist Nikki Pickle, who joined in 2020, drummer Nick Aguilar, who joined in 2022, and synth player Jon Modaff, added in 2025. Signed to Brooklyn's Greenway Records, they remain known primarily as a live act, playing at high volume and sustained tempo.
