Louisville band from the early-2000s nu-metal wave, still working the same mix of downtuned churn and confessional vocal hooks.

Flaw began in Louisville, Kentucky in 1996 when guitarist Jason Daunt placed a newspaper ad looking for a singer. Chris Volz answered with a demo tape, and the two started writing together that same night. Independent releases through the late 1990s, including American Arrogance and a self-titled album, built a regional following and led to a showcase at CBGB that caught the attention of Republic and Universal.

The band paired downtuned, percussive riffing with lyrics that leaned toward personal struggle and self-examination rather than aggression for its own sake, a formula that set them apart from much of the nu-metal pack around them.

Through the Eyes was recorded in 2001 at Sound City with producer David Bottrill. It topped the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart, reached 119 on the Billboard 200, and produced the singles "Payback" and "Whole," alongside a slot on Ozzfest and a placement on the Scorpion King soundtrack.

For 2004's Endangered Species, the band parted ways with Daunt and drummer Chris Ballinger, brought in Micah Havertape, and continued as a four-piece. The album debuted at 42 on the Billboard 200, selling over 27,000 copies in its first week, and its single "Recognize" reached 25 on the rock charts.

Years of breakups and shifting membership followed before three core members reunited between 2015 and 2017, producing Divided We Fall in 2016 and Vol IV: Because of the Brave in 2019, with a covers album, Revival, arriving in 2022. Chris Volz remains the only member to have stayed with the band throughout.
