Geese's frontman gone solo — a cracked, theatrical voice over piano songs that wander somewhere unexpected.

Cameron Winter grew up in Park Slope, Brooklyn, attending Brooklyn Friends School; his mother is a writer and his father a composer. He played youth ice hockey as a boy but gave it up after concussions, turning to music instead. He formed Geese with school friends in 2016, and the band signed to Partisan Records in 2020 rather than Winter pursuing the communications degree he had applied for at Boston University.

Geese work in a loose, guitar-driven rock idiom, releasing A Beautiful Memory in 2018, Projector in 2021, 3D Country in 2023 and Getting Killed in 2025, alongside three EPs. Winter serves as the band's vocalist, keyboardist and main songwriter, and that run of records built a reputation well before his solo turn.

Winter's own material is sparer, built mainly around piano and his voice: a nasal, strained, heavily inflected delivery that slides between crooning, muttering and yelping, often within the same line. He first released solo material in October 2024, two songs titled "Vines" and "Take It With You," paired together as Singles.

His debut solo album, Heavy Metal, appeared in December 2024, setting long, digressive lyrics against arrangements that stay deliberately unpolished. It drew wide critical acclaim, was named among the best debut albums of 2024 by Paste, and later placed third on Pitchfork's albums of 2025 list, with its track "Love Takes Miles" named that outlet's song of the year.

On his first solo tour, Winter became one of the youngest artists to headline a concert at Carnegie Hall, a show filmed by director Paul Thomas Anderson with help from Benny Safdie.
