The Marley torch, carried with ease — roots reggae warmth and his father's songbook, sung like an inheritance held lightly.

Ziggy Marley, born David Nesta Marley on 17 October 1968, is the eldest son of Bob Marley and Rita Marley. He led Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers with his siblings Sharon, Cedella and Stephen until 2002, releasing eight studio albums, before launching a solo career on his own label, Tuff Gong Worldwide.

His music sits in the roots reggae tradition, with socially minded lyrics and a light, conversational vocal delivery that closely resembles his father's phrasing. Alongside his own catalogue, he has recorded and performed his father's songs, worked on children's music and books, and contributed music to film and television.

Over his career he has won eight Grammy Awards and a Daytime Emmy Award. He is also active in philanthropy through the U.R.G.E. Foundation, which supports education, health and environmental projects for children in Jamaica, Africa and North America.

In 2024 he produced the biographical film Bob Marley: One Love, and its companion compilation won the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. That year he also reunited with his brothers for the Marley Brothers' Legacy Tour, their first collective tour in two decades, performing their father's catalog in major U.S. cities.

His recent work includes the children's picture book Pajammin', released in June 2025.
