Wombo
Louisville trio pairing deadpan vocals with wiry, off-kilter guitar figures — dream-logic songwriting kept taut rather than hazy.
Wombo took shape in Louisville, Kentucky, in 2016, when bassist and singer Sydney Chadwick and guitarist Cameron Lowe left their earlier punk-pop outfit, the Debauchees, and recruited drummer Joel Taylor. The trio made its live debut as Wombo that August.
The band's songs are built from angular, treble-heavy guitar lines and busy basslines, with Chadwick's flat, unhurried delivery on top; the results lean as much on post-punk rhythm sections as on the surrealist imagery of the lyrics. An early EP, Staring at Trees, appeared in 2017, followed by the debut album Blossomlooksdownuponus in 2018.
Wombo signed to Fire Talk Records in March 2021 and released the EP Keesh Mountain two months later, led by the single 'Dreamsickle.' The label also reissued Blossomlooksdownuponus on vinyl that year, after the album had first reached streaming platforms in 2020.
Their Fire Talk full-length, Fairy Rust, followed in July 2022 and drew praise from The Fader and Paste, plus a positive review from Pitchfork; Uproxx singled out its droning guitars and frenetic, angular melodies as an expertly built art-rock record.
A third EP, Slab, arrived in June 2023, around the period the band opened for Bully and later supported Cherry Glazerr on her 2024 Touch of Chaos tour. Wombo's third full-length album, Danger in Fives, followed in August 2025.
